One of the amazing things that has materialized in the long journey of getting "As I AM: The Life & Times of DJ AM" re-released is that we had the opportunity to crack back open the vault on all of the amazing interviews that were shot for the making of the documentary. Out of that exploration, Kevin Kerslake & myself (Kevin Scott) decided that there was enough material to put out two separate full series of bonus features that focused on the duality of Adam Goldstein & DJ AM.
The series I produced is titled "DJ AM: The Artist" and it explores Adam's entire DJ career from beginning to end. Kevin Kerslake's series is titled "Adam Goldstein: The Addict" which takes a deep look at the trauma, guilt & addictions that Adam dealt with in his short life. (There will be a separate blog post that will go into detail about "Adam Goldstein: The Addict" in the near future)
"DJ AM: The Artist" is a 3 part series that I wrote & produced that takes a deep dive into AM’s entire musical journey from start to finish. The series begins with the first chapter named ‘Origin Story’ which explores Adam’s first experiences with music & culture as a kid growing up in Philly in the late 70s & 80s. It includes some of his early creative influences and how his young life experiences evolved into him getting his first set of turntables after he moved to LA. Part 2 is aptly named “The Perfect Storm” and it covers AM’s early DJ gigs and his unique evolution to becoming an undisputed rock star within the DJ world. The Perfect Storm also chronicles how an incredible set of circumstances allowed AM to achieve milestones in the DJ world that no one thought possible. ‘The Phoenix’ is the conclusion to this 3 part series and it traces his incredible last year of life after surviving a near death plane crash. The Phoenix also serves as a retrospective on his importance to the DJ culture while exploring his lasting impact on the music industry.
"DJ AM: The Artist" is over 3 hours in total length and is, by far, the most thorough look at DJ AM’s ground breaking career as a DJ. It features never before seen footage and interviews from the likes of DJ AM himself, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Mark Ronson, A-Trak, Steve Aoki, Diplo, Jon Favreau, Stretch Armstrong, Ben Baller, Clark Kent and many, many others!
